Nine persons were killed and 100 others injured when a speeding passenger train rammed into a stationary train here, leading to derailment of five coaches.
The Chennai Beach-Vellore Cantonment Mainline Electrical Multiple Unit (MEMU) train rammed into the Arakkonam-Katpadi passenger from behind as it was waiting for a signal at Chitheri station, about 90 km from Chennai, around 9.40 p.m. on Tuesday.
but i dont know tamilnadu government takes any action regarding this.

Railway trespassing kills 623 in 2011 at chennai

A total of 623 people were killed and 256 others got injured, while trespassing railway track in Chennai and its adjoining districts till November this year. Concerned over the loss of numerous lives, the Chennai Division of the Southern Railway organised a walkathon at Marina Beach on Sunday morning to create an awareness of the dangers of trespassing among the general public.

Kanimozhi's bail makes MK happy

DMK president and former Tamilnadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi Monday spoke to his daughter and party MP Kanimozhi after she was given bail by the Delhi High Court in the 2G case.
'The news of Kanimozhi getting bail gives me happiness,' a relaxed Karunanidhi told reporters at his residence.

Asked what will be his first words to his daughter, who has been in Delhi's Tihar Jail since 20 May, after she lands here, he said: 'At last, you have come.'
Questioned on whether Kanimozhi would be given any new position in the party, Karunanidhi said the party would decide on that as he is not an autocratic leader.
When asked about DMK MP and former union communications minister A Raja not moving a bail petition, he said if Raja seeks any assistance, it will be considered.
According to party sources, Karunanidhi was a bit cautious this time, unlike earlier times when Kanimozhi was denied bail, contrary to expectations.
During the course of the day, Karunanidhi watched television and also got in touch with DMK MPs in New Delhi about the happenings in the court.Add Your Comment

125-year-old building

The 125-year-old building on M.S. Koil Street housing Royapuram police station is to be demolished.
The (N1) police station, one of the oldest in the city, will be shifted to a building on Arthoon Road, for whose construction the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation has sanctioned Rs.44.7 lakh.
The old structure, according to sources, does not figure in the list of heritage buildings prepared by a committee headed by Justice E.Padmanabhan. It is in a dilapidated condition and hence needs to be pulled down, said Peer Mohammed, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Royapuram.
“The plan for the [new] building has been approved and it will be constructed on Arthoon Road on the premises where the All-Women’s Police Station (AWPS) is situated. But we are yet to get approval for shifting the AWPS to a rental building,” said Mr.Mohammed.
The proposal was made two years ago and it was approved a year ago. The final sanction, however, was received only recently. Police sources say the AWPS would be temporarily shifted to the police quarters in Kasimedu, Mint or Royapuram.
The new building will house the office of ACP law and order, crime and the AWPS. The AWPS in Royapuram is the first women’s police station in north Chennai and was inaugurated in 2002 by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.Add Your Comment
