The infamous ‘Facebook’ thief is finally in the police net.

The police arrested Mohamed Faizal Sidique, 23, on Monday night in Vellore for allegedly stealing from the house of one of his Facebook friends.
Investigations revealed that Sidique had cheated many people in the name of friendship and black magic.

“We were tailing him on the basis of a complaint lodged by one Tirupathi of Alandur who became friends with Sidique through the social networking site Facebook,” said police officials.

“Tirupathi had invited the accused to his house last week. Sidique had stolen three sovereigns of gold, a cellphone and home theatre system from Tirupathi’s house. We located him in Vellore,” police sources said.

The sleuths recovered 60 sovereigns of gold that Sidique had pledged with a pawnbroker in Vellore.
Police again questioned Sidique, who then confessed to having duped a businessman from Pallavaram who had come in contact with him over the Internet.

“He was suffering losses in his business and wanted Sidique to use sorcery to help him to run the business profitably. During his stay at the businessman’s house, Sidiquue stole 35 sovereigns of gold and told the businessman that the gold was ‘taken’ by Satan,” police said.

“Sidique told the businessman that Satan had wanted to take the life of the latter’s son but claimed that he had ‘negotiated’ with Satan who later agreed to take the gold. The businessman believed it and did not lodge a compliant. He disclosed this only when we asked about it,” police sources said.

The police believe that Sidique, who was a diploma holder and good with computers, could have cheated many others in similar manner.
