I second Sindhuja's second suggestion - Dakshin Chitra - out on the ECR Road just after the MGM Water Park. This mini-South India offers a glimpse of the culture and history of the 4 main states in South India. It offers a lot in terms of art, handicrafts and architecture. Anybody would love to take a peek inside the quaint little houses that are built to perfection along the styles of the region and ethnicity they belong to. Most importantly, Dakshin Chitra is nearly an hour away from the hustle & bustle of the main city, giving a weary tourist a much needed break from the BiG city life of crowded Chennai.
Chennai tourism is synonymous to culture and heritage of South India. Marina beach, the temples at Mylapore, Beasent Nagar, Triplicane etc., the Santhome churche, St. Thomas Mount, the classical music and dance, Kalakshetra, the south Indian restaurants etc etc. These are some the things typical to Chennai for any outsider; not to forget a bumpy auto ride! :D
If you are an adventure freak, you can try out the Catamaron Rides @ Mahabalipuram, its great fun... you will be taken 2 kilometers into the sea in a catamaron ( a rough looking boat) with life jackets and will be thrown into the sea, there will be a rope that holds you and you wont be able to swim, its amazing and the ride lasts for about an hour It costs around 600 per person . Contact Ravi @ 9840819458 or Hafiz @ 98408 19458 for more info..

@narsi- Yes, its about 5 kms from Pallvaram bus stand..
The Thiruneermalai temple is also near Pallavaram, right?
I recall going to this temple about 5 years back when my grand parents were staying in Pozhichallur, which is about 3 kms from the Pallavaram station. This temple Is believed to be built in the Chola peroid. It is called the Agasteeswara Temple, a very quiet and peaceful temple with lot of trees around with Navagrahas and Shiva as the main deities.
I found some details about this temple from the temple%u2019s website %u2013
%u201CThis is an ancient temple in which there is a (swayambu- self evolved) Lingam that had come up of its own. During the 12th century when chozha kings were ruling their land: this temple was built up by our ancestors at a private land which belonged to our ancestors. When the saint Agathiya returned from Himalayas to podhigai mountain: he had stayed here for a short period of time and was offering worship to God. And hence, the deity here is known as Agatheeswarar and the goddess Aananthavalli.%u201D

St. Thomas Mount is about 10 kms away from Pallavaram bus stand, close to the airport.
It is believed that this is the site where the apostle of Jesus %u2013 St Thomas, was supposed to have been killed. There is a church at the summit of the 300 foot high St. Thomas Mount. The mount has 160 steps leading to the summit - http://www.tourismchennai.com/st-thomas-mount.html. One can also get a panoramic view of the airport from here.
If you are taking a train from Pallavaram, it shouldnt take you more than 10 mins to get the St. Thomas Mount Station. From the railway station, you can take a bus, cab or an auto to get to the foot of the hillock.
Here are links to some pictures and videos of St. Thomas Mount - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBGN1FzXNIY&NR=1

I think these days its Volkswagen and Maruti. See a lot of them on the streets these days/
Audi??
It certainly cant be Mercedes, with the Kanjoos culture we have in Chennai
Thanks guys...I run a small startup, I cannot afford to pay 15000 Rs for a fresher...are there institutes or hangouts in Chennai (such as the Chennai Linux Group etc) from where I can perhaps get very bright programmers who would be willing to work for less than market prices because we offer some excellent opportunities for original programming (not just the dumb outsourced development), but cannot offer market prices for salaries
the average fresher in software industry today gets anywhere from 10k to 50k depending on his/her college and the company.
@Narsi- perhaps due to increased cost of living in cities like Bangalore?
Wel...that is an understatement, wen u say 10 to 15k....today a fresher can actually get from newhr between 25k to 35k...it is bcoz of their knowledge in the field and innovative ways to implement them....oly a few companies appreciate it vth good compensations....however i am not talkin bout start-ups here.!!!!!!
That''s a lot of money...why should a fresh guy get so much money??
murugan venugopal says 1 year ago
Is it really worth??
