hmshyam, I totally agree. something has to be done about the traffic here. thank god, its not as bad as mumbai or blore. we could have a separate lane for motorbikes and cycles. these guys drive like they r in a race!
I have not seen any system working perfectly in Chennai yet.. Let alone the auto rickshaw tariff, the traffic signals don't seem to be any usefl here! Vehicles stretch at least a good few metres beyond the line on stop signal. And worse still if you are driving a car. The two wheelers form a shield about you such that even when the green signal comes up you cant move before they do! So coming back to your question, I doubt if the tariff system might work here. I'd first prefer to see traffic rules adherence. But with some good initiatives by the city police (separate auto lanes and bus lanes) there is a slight chance of things improving! Lets hope..
Mumbai used to be almost perfect in terms of autos earlier, and even now is (I am currently sitting in a hotel in Mumbai)...but these guys are slowly getting corrupted by who else by Chennai auto drivers..at least 20-30% of autos in Mumbai no longer use meters, and they charge whatever they like...
So forget about Chennai autos becoming more honest, as long as they do not corrupt the rest of the country, we should be happy
haha! unbelievable! cant really believe tat chennai auto walas are corrupting mumbaikars.

If they are primary/secondary kids it is best to seek College student volunteers who are major in the subjects associated. Normally the youngsters can team up with their friends and schedule weekly sessions for the children at the orphanage. They would also have a sense of giving something back to the community even when they are doing their studies.
